TOILETS

Toilets are available within the school changing facilities. Please use the entrance shown on the map and do not use the leisure centre facilities to avoid creating a mess.

COURSE

The course comprises 3.5 laps of approximately 1.25 miles / 2km to give a total distance of 4.3 miles / 7km. The start will be located on the field at the southeast corner of the leisure centre grounds and will follow a clockwise direction around the fields, skirting the sports pitches, and around the southern and eastern sides of the all-weather pitch then onto the top grass area at the northeast of the grounds before following the line of the metal fence and boundary hedge and dropping into the woods and completing a lap after emerging back onto the start field. On the fourth lap runners are to turn left after going up the eastern side of the all-weather pitch to the finish funnel that will be located on the northern side of the pitch. The course is a combination of open grass with short, sharp climbs and descents of banks which can become very slippery and an area of woodland that contains many exposed routes and possible rocks that may make spikes unsuitable. The fields are usually very boggy after periods of rain!

FIRST AID

St. John Ambulance will provide first aid cover

RISK ASSESSMENT

Risk assessment attached. The main hazards are risks of tripping, particularly in the wooded areas where there are exposed tree roots and rocks; low branches may cause injury through the woods and slips / falls on the steep banks. Runners are strongly advised to wear shoes with a high level of grip such as Mudclaws or similar.

OTHER INFO

RACE NUMBER / TIMING CHIPS

No number/chip = no result for you (don't start without one)

Wear the number most recently allocated - if you use an old one you find at home and it's not currently registered to you, you will not appear in the results

Please make sure you do not hold your hand over your number/chip when you cross the finish line - hold arms to side or above your head. You may not get registered by the system and the backup video at the finish will not record your number.

Please do not get close to the timing equipment (finish) once you've been through the finish once. Repeated 'pings' slow down the results system

Please do not take unused chips (from runners who are not running) close to the finish.... otherwise those not attending will appear in the results.

Full details can be found here on the GLCL Website - Entry / Registration Section

2026 GLCL XC Series: Fixture 4 of 5 PBB

Finish - please note!

As we will be trialling a new chip timing system there will be TWO finish lines to cross. The first will be the usual line with the grey side panels that Chepstow will be setting up, then about 10m further on will be some  timing mats as part of the system we are trialling. Please keep running after the first finish and onto and over the 2nd finish line before walking out of the funnel area. It will all be taped up as usual and hopefully very obvious - we're just making you aware of the trial and the way it will be set up.

THIS IS A CLOSED EVENT FOR GWENT LEISURE CENTRE LEAGUE MEMBERS ONLY
